What does clogged porous asphalt do to your road?
ZOAB stands for Zeer Open Asfalt Beton, the Dutch term for porous asphalt concrete. Its open structure drains rainwater and dampens traffic noise, but only as long as the pores stay clear.
With use, the pores become clogged with fine dust, rubber, oil and dirt. As a result:
- water stays on the road surface and the risk of aquaplaning increases;
- braking distances get longer and less predictable;
- the noise reduction drops.
Cleaning with a porous asphalt cleaner opens the pores again and restores these properties.
How does porous asphalt cleaning work?
Track Jetting uses water jets. Our equipment sprays water under high pressure deep into the pores of the porous asphalt and immediately vacuums up the loosened dirt. Because the water pressure is infinitely adjustable, we work at exactly the right pressure: strong enough to remove dirt deep inside the voids, without damaging the asphalt.
All waste water goes straight back into the tank and is disposed of in line with the applicable regulations. The method is quiet, which makes night work possible without noise nuisance.
When should you use a porous asphalt cleaner?
- In preparation for new road markings: a clean and dry surface gives better adhesion
- Regular maintenance to keep the drainage working properly
- After a traffic accident where oil or fuel has soaked into the road surface
- In tunnels and under viaducts, where dirt builds up especially fast
